Treatment

When treatment is necessary, Dr. J will use digital X-rays and mouth cameras to review findings and explain personalized treatment options. We create a comfortable enviorment for young patients. Each treatment room is equipped with nitrous oxide and a TV with headphones, and most importantly we welcome a parent to be in the room during the treatment. Please let us know if your child needs specific accommodations that will make him/her more comfortable.

Dr. J offers comprehensive pediatric dental treatments. This includes sealant, white fillings, crowns, nerve therapy, extraction, and space maintainer appliances.

What’s the best treatment option for your child?

Several factors help us choose the best treatment plan for your child, including:

  • Size and location of cavity
  • Amount of tooth structure remaining
  • Any discomfort, sensitivity, or swelling
  • Age, behavior, and previous dental experiences
  • Amount of treatment needs

Before your child’s treatment begins, Dr. J will discuss all options and help you choose the best treatment option for your child’s particular needs. If your child requires early orthodontic treatment, Dr. J will work with Dr. Hanna to minimize the treatment visits.

Tell-Show-Do Approach with Nitrous oxide

Dr. J put an emphasis on Tell-Show-Do technique during your child's visit. We use everyday language to explain what we’re doing, provide lots of encouragement, and always are attentive to the child’s comfort. Our goal is to build trust and ultimately create a positive, caring, and comfortable environment.

To help with anxious children, Dr. J may utilize nitrous oxide during treatment. Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is the most frequently used method for easing mild to moderate anxiety in children. Administered through a small mask that fits over your child’s nose, it is an effective way to calm anxiety.  As the gas begins to work, your child will become calm, although he or she will still be awake and able to talk with the dentist. At the end of your child’s appointment, he or she will resume breathing regular oxygen, and all the effects of nitrous oxide will disappear.

If your child has difficulty sitting still for treatment, Dr. J may offer No shot, No drill treatment options to control the cavity initially.
